Over the past 18 months the Union has taken on a number of key sustainability initiatives aimed at reducing our impact on the world around us and promoting this within the wider UTS community. Some of our current activities are listed below.

  • A proactive waste recycling program has been rolled out across all Union eateries and bars which includes, garbage, glass, plastics, aluminium steel, paper and cooking oil recycling
  • Low voltage lighting is used throughout Union outlets
  • Low use water taps have been fitted to the Level 3 toilet facilities
  • The ARP Mobile Phone Recycling Program exists across all campuses
  • The Union offers a unique promotion encouraging customers to reuse their own coffee mugs thereby reducing the number of disposable coffee cups used
  • The Union participates in the Seafood Sustainability day helping to promote this good course
  • Organic fair-trade coffee is served in all Union outlets
  • Organic food products and juices are offered in Harris St Café
  • Our student magazine What's On is printed on 100% recycled paper
  • Current building plans for a new Union Function Centre (opening 2010) are ensuring best practice in power, gas and water usage
  • Our cooking oils are used as per the Coastal Oil Procedure from all our sites
  • We have an Eco Cash ATM at our Kuringai camous
