About us

My name is James Fox and I am the President of the UTS Union. I want to make sure you get the most out of your time at university and have a fantastic time here at UTS.

The time you spend in the classroom is only 50% of the university experience; the rest of it happens on the sporting field, in club meetings, at parties and social gatherings, at the gym, in bars and cafes and even interstate and overseas for events and competitions. I strongly urge you to get involved with the vast array of co-curricular activities that the UTS Union has to offer. Not only will you enjoy uni life more, but you will make new friends, develop new skills and learn more about yourself as a person. 

SPORTING AND SOCIAL CLUBS

One of the best things about UTS is that there are opportunities for everyone. Whether you are interested in photography, politics, beer drinking, raising money for charity, speaking a new language, learning about a religion or culture, or saving the environment, the 100 plus social clubs that the UTS Union has to offer, there is bound to be something that takes your interest. Join a club, go along to meetings and parties, take on a position of leadership, and most importantly, have fun.

SPORT AND RECREATION ACTIVITIES

The UTS Union also operates a Fitness Centre on Harris St, City Campus. The staff are friendly, approachable and can help you achieve all your fitness goals, whether you are looking to get fit, bulk up or shed a few kilos. The sports clubs available run from lawn bowls to rugby- social to elite. Get involved and you might even discover a hidden talent! You can even go on to represent your sporting team at events such as University Games – a week of sport and partying with students from across Australia. If short courses and trips are your thing, the Union puts on some great expeditions throughout the year, such as visits to the Blue Mountains, whale watching trips and more.

VOLUNTEERING OPPORTUNITIES

You can also become a volunteer of the UTS Union, another great way to be involved and meet new people.

CAFES | BARS | EATERIES

The Union runs the bars, cafes and eateries around campus. These are great places to meet fellow UTS students, grab a drink and a bite to eat and take part in weekly events such as trivia and pool comps. During 2012, UTS students and staff will receive a 10% discount across all Union outlets including food, beverage and retail stores, upon presentation of their UTS card. I never imagined the doors on-campus activities would lead me through, but because of them it has changed my life for the better. Friends, career choices and interests have all changed and grown because of the opportunities the UTS Union has afforded me. My degree just got me in the building, it’s the UTS Union experience that has really made the difference in my life for the better! I look forward to meeting you around campus!
